Default SEO FAQs

Hi!

just wanna share this one I saw on other forums...

How can I build more links/ How can I get more traffic?
If you ask this question, you will get the usual link droppers knocking at your door with answers like: blog comments with “dofollow”, forum posting, directories, social bookmarking sites etc…
When it comes to link building and traffic, there is only one thing you should keep in mind: the user. When placing a link on a website, you have to ask yourself: “will the visitors benefit from finding my website?”
It’s easy to increase the amount of visitors, but focus on bringing relevant visitors.

The best way to build links is to write original content, stories, have a widget/tool to download etc…and promote it. Those will make people link to your website + bring more visitors. At the same time, it increases the “value” of your website. But if you would rather spend hours posting on blogs and submitting your site to directories/social bookmarking sites, be my guest. Your link will get buried faster than you can say spam.

My website went from 2nd page to 4th, what did I do wrong?
Nothing. It is not uncommon for website to do the yoyo and go up and down the SERPs until you achieve some authority for a keyphrases. Keep on working, it will go back up.

How many links can I build without getting banned?
There is a myth that says that if you build links too fast, your site will get penalized. It’s BS.
Firstly, do you think Google Chrome got penalized when it went live and got millions of links within a week. No.
Secondly, if you are fighting with 4-10 competitors for a few keyphrases, all you would have to do is build a lot of links pointing to their site and they would get penalized. Just sit back and cash the cheques.

The bottom line is: you can’t get penalized for something you don’t have control over. Links pointing to your site fits right there in this category.

How can I get more visitors to increase my rankings?
The number of visitors do not affect the rankings.

How can I know how many visitors I got?
You can simply check your log info or use Google Analytics, Awstats etc…

What keyword tool do you use?
I recommend Google keyword tool, or this google keyword tool or Google Insight.

What keyword density is optimum / how many keyword can I put in headers/title?
When optimizing your content/heading tags, title, meta tags for a keyword, there is only one rule that applies: Keep the user in mind!
If you read your content or heading tags and it look spammy, then it’s too many keywords. If it looks fine, then it’s probably fine.
Again, the user will be the one buying your services/products, talking about your website, linking to it etc…not the search engines.
Do your website a favor, work with the search engines without trying to trick them while keeping your user in mind.

That’s a good post overall. I have a couple of things to add. It is true that you can drop from 2nd page to 4th page on google, but keep in mind that page ranking is not very important anymore. What is important is to get quality targeted traffic. I believe that people should focus on submitting articles because you can post links to your web site, and draw people who are specifically interested in your topic.
