I agree you should DO SEO not USE it. Reading some post from SEO forums can help you. You can search google for some basic techniques of SEO.

Hello mate! SEO is not an affiliate program or something, it only generates your domain or website to increase its popularity in various search engines. Google Webmaster is the first thing to do which your domain or website can be crawled in the Google index, which you must enter a valid sitemap for it, then just use any traffic generating sites to increase your traffic and page rank of your domain. I hope that helps you a little.

SEO is classified into two types.
On Page SEO: Designing the website to make it search engine friendly.
OffPage SEO: Posting the content on the internet.

Both of them are vast. A post is not enough to explain.
