The domain name isn't important. It can however, help.

Just saying to target the easy keywords is doing you and your clients a huge disservice. They are however, a great source of easy traffic for new Web sites or sites that were never optimized to begin with.

Google doesn't index Web sites. It indexes Web pages. Same with every other search engine on the planet.

META descriptions play no part in ranking. They can however increase your traffic from the search engines if they're written in a descriptive yet compelling manner.

And like the title, they're page specific, not site-specific.

WRONG. Google and the other search engines read HTML files in source code order. That's from TOP to BOTTOM.

Yes, the like fresh content. But it won't help your site rank better on its own. The higher rankings will come from optimized content, optimized code, and optimized incoming links. Believe it or not...

Age really doesn't play a role in determining the relevance of content.

If your site is considered by the search engines to be more authoratitive than the original, then the original may be filtered out. I doubt it happens often though outside of article directories.

With the exception of the search engines (which will find your site anyway, and does not increase your PR), none of those are what I would call quality relevant incoming links. They're "bottom of the barrel" that bottomfeeders tend to gorge on thinking they're the best, when in fact they're just dumpster diving for the worst kinds of links they can possibly get.

This is not doing wrong service to client. This is a process of selecting keywords not just for traffic and also for site rankings.

If you start with high compitetion keywords like download, internet, etc, There won't be a chance of traffic too.

I didn't say to target the low-hanging fruit exclusively. I said that if that's what an SEO does that he's failing his client. Nor should an SEO focus on the more competitive words exclusively either.

So, what to do? Target the easy to rank for keywords, get them to #1, but make sure those easy keywords contain the more competitive keywords in them. That way you're not only getting keyword rich link text for the easy ones, but the harder ones as well (which Dan Theis once referred to as "staged promotion").

It is helpful if you're Domain name is your keyword. For example, your keyword is MP3 and your site is www.mp3.com.

True. But it is important in SEO to put METAs. Meta tags are used to add information to the HTTP header of a webpage. It also contains hidden information in the coding that the search engines will pick up on.
Example: author's name, title of web site and "keywords" Meta tags can help improve your placement in search engines and can therefore help increase traffic to your Web site. Most likely, if your site does not have "keywords" in the head of your html code, the engines will not find your website.

Nowadays, Directory submission isn't that hot like before.

But it won't help much, especially in the more competitive keyword verticals. If you have a non-comeptitive keyword, getting the domain name with those keywords can be very helpful. But once the competition starts to notice, it won't help as much from a purely SEO perspective.

I'm a Web developer; of course I know what META tags are used for. And no, they're not sent in the HTTP headers; they're just sent as "meta data".

The <title></title> tags are not META tags. The only real META tags are those that are enclosed and start with the word "META". Like so: <meta> (content removed to keep it short, sweet, and simple).

The keywords tag is practically useless to SEOs. Some search engines will look at them but won't use them. The rest just ignore them outright.

And like I said, they will NOT help improve your rankings (placement). Furthermore, the "author" META tag is not necessary for SEO purposes, and the search engines will still find your site as long as something is linking to it (or it has been submitted to them).

Yup, it won't help much. But it does help just a little.

I haven't said anything about the title tags.
