WolframAlpha launched 13 Days, 16 Hours, 24 Minutes and 37.86 Seconds ago (he told me) and i have not had much time to post about Wolfram.. But to sum it up, i love it and yes i was there hitting refresh on launch day until i found a back door in early. As i suspected opinions about WolframAlpha have been mixed, many people expected it to spit out all sorts of cool stuff regardless what you input. But that's not the case, it's a computational engine and is much different to Google's information storage and retrieval engine. They are different beasts for different tasks. Anyhow it looks like WolframAlpha have hooked up with Alexa which is interesting, and the Wolf can provide you will various pieces of data about web sites. Here you can see i've punched in Taree Internet, here is the first part: ![]() As you can see we are with Caro.net in Charlotte, North Carolina and it shows the GPS coordinates, Time and Date plus Weather. As with most boxes there's links where you can drill down and view maps, nearby cities and other relevant info. Further along, we can see 110,000 daily page views and 56,000 daily unique visitors. These are slightly inflated, but getting these numbers perfect isn't easy without direct log access. Site Rank (which is actually the Alexa Rank) is 33,628. Also they have "Traffic Fraction" which means that for every 2.6 Million people using the web 1 person out of that lot is browsing this site. No idea how accurate this is, i have no idea how many people are browsing the web at any given time. Further Down the Wolfram Results: ![]() WolframAlpha show the home page Title which is correct, also the plain HTML size of 6.29kb (just checked it's exactly 6,291 bytes) so this is right. They also show 22 links from the page which is correct again and the same with 1 image on the page. Now, the spotted graph is the HTML hierarchy which is very cool indeed but to make more sense of it you need the next part: ![]() So what this does is show how the whole shebang is tied together. The average person won't find this interesting, but it's something i will be experimenting with. I "really" hope this evolves in the future to graph a whole site, plus provide URL's on the graph in order to show the entire internal linking structure of your site. You could show heavily linked to "nodes" within your site, and it would be brilliant to visualize the relationship of every page. Anyhow, that a brief look at WolframAlpha and some of the data available for web sites at this stage. My only gripe with Wolfram is you have no ability to Copy/Paste bits of info or data from the results page because most of it is done with dynamic images. You can however download a .pdf of the page which is a trade off. If you have not played around with it, i urge you to take a look at WolframAlpha
