Yes PR does really matter and it is extremely imp in Google's eye. If you want to be first for keyword with small competition than high PR can help you to beat your opponents but if you have serious competition then of course links are much more important than PR.

I really don't think PR is that important. As long as your website has a huge traffic it's alright. PR is just some popularity checker.

Why would anyone choose for an unsearchable keyword? That's why SEO is important for optimizing a website.

It is important but not too important that you should be obsessed in having a higher PR. Focus more on having more traffic. The PR will just follow after that
