It depends. SEO's Can be expensive or not. But a good SEO company can yield the results in days. Now a days no e-commerce company can survive without SEO's. As company with the higher rank gets hits and as a result increase in traffic and profit in business.

I was talking to a potential client today and he said that some of these SEO firms are asking for $1500 up front. He was a small businessman and didn't have the money.

I charge by the hour (and it isn't much compared to every SEO guy I know of) and do a good job. The only difference between me and these SEO companies is that I don't have any overhead and I do this part-time. I have a full-time job already - so it doesn't matter to me (about the money).

If you are a good SEO specialist - you can undercut the competition with your prices - then ppl will start talking about your business (in a good way).
