I think that forum signatures do help, but not signatures from webmaster forums. Why? The competition for those terms is so high and forum signatures seem to help best when the niche is related to the site you have in your signature.

I have 25k posts on dp and do not see any seo advantage from it whatsoever.

The niche of forum doesn't really matter. Seriously, what is a search engine going to give more weight to? A link you can add yourself, or a link you have to earn? The merit-based link (the one you have to work for) will win every single time.

In some cases, your links niche is very important because it adds weighs to search engines.
